Cagayan de Oro LGU lauds Smart as disaster resilience partner

by Smart Communications Inc. | Jul 07, 2025
The Cagayan de Oro City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) has recognized PLDT's wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) for its contributions to disaster preparedness and community resilience.
“What Cagayan de Oro now has in terms of disaster preparedness and resiliency was made possible because of the CDRRMD's collaboration with key stakeholders—national agencies, barangays, volunteer groups, CSOs, telecommunications companies, and the media,” said Atty. Roy Raagas, City Administrator of Cagayan de Oro.

"We are honored to be among those recognized by the Cagayan de Oro's CDRRMD. This reflects our shared commitment to helping communities become safer and more resilient through reliable communication and effective collaboration. We thank the LGU for considering PLDT and Smart as partners in its ongoing journey toward disaster resilience,” said Judee Chaves, Smart’s Mindanao Relations Head.

As active members of the emergency telecommunications cluster, PLDT and Smart have supported CDRRMD’s initiatives for several years. Smart's Infocast, a platform that enables the quick and efficient delivery of critical alerts to residents, highlights the vital role of communication in building disaster-ready communities.

To further strengthen local response capabilities, the PLDT Group also provided the PLDT-Smart Ligtas Kit - an all-in-one emergency communications package which includes essential tools and training that help equip responders during emergencies.

“Your active participation and shared commitment to disaster risk reduction and resilience are the foundation of our city's ability to withstand and recover from challenges. As we mark this year's National Disaster Resilience Month, let this not be just a ceremonial observance but a daily reminder of our shared responsibility to build safer, stronger, and more prepared communities,” Raagas added.

These efforts are part of PLDT and Smart’s #SafeandSmart advocacy, which promotes preparedness and rapid response through reliable connectivity, mobile solutions, and community engagement. The program supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
