PLDT, Smart support in-person comeback of Cebu ICT Student Congress

by Smart Communications | Apr 03, 2023

PLDT Inc. and its wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) have shown their full support for the comeback of the in-person implementation of the Cebu ICT Student Congress led by the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators-Central Visayas Chapter (PSITE-7).

Expounding on the theme, “Disruptive Innovation Tools and Technologies”, Engr. Leopoldo Mojal VI, Senior Supervisor of Smart Network Field Services discussed the recent developments in wireless information and communications technology, as well as shared Smart’s journey in innovating its technologies to better serve the growing needs for connectivity of its users.

Over 800 students from the various universities in Cebu who are taking up IT and Engineering courses have attended the congress in-person at the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Main Campus. This is a yearly event that provides opportunities for IT educators and students to learn, share experiences, and be empowered via innovative strategies to adapt to the dynamic industry of communication and technology.

“We are overwhelmed with PLDT and Smart’s support for the past years. Their support in terms of the speakerships and raffle items is important to our activities and to our students because this helps entice them to attend and learn from our experts. PLDT and Smart have given us expert speakers in the industry who share insightful topics with our students. We hope that the partnership and support from PLDT and Smart will stay for the next years to come,” said Dr. Aurora Miro, President of PSITE-Central Visayas.

PLDT and Smart have also set up a SIM Registration assistance desk at CTU to register the SIMS of students above 18 years old. This is a continuing initiative of the group to protect all its subscribers against any SIM-, Internet-, or Electronic-aided fraudulent acts.

PLDT Group’s support for the Cebu ICT Student Congress proves its commitment to promoting digital inclusion, further contributing to the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly UN SDG #4 of providing quality education.
