Since its launch in August 2024, EarthSmart: Table to Farm Project has collected 1.3 metric tons of food waste from approximately 100 PLDT and Smart employees, proving that small but consistent actions can lead to significant environmental impact.
Davao Thermo Biotech Corporation (DTBC) CEO Olive Puentespina envisions a waste-free Philippines—a goal which she believes can only be achieved through the collective efforts of various sectors.

Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Puentespina expressed her enthusiasm for DTBC’s partnership with PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) for an initiative called EarthSmart: Table to Farm Project.

“I am happy that there are initiatives from private institutions like PLDT and Smart to participate in a global movement and be part of the solution of diverting waste from landfills to something of worth. In our case, we convert waste into compost to help invigorate and make healthy soil for farming and food security,” she said.

Since its launch in August 2024, the project has collected 1.3 metric tons of food waste from approximately 100 PLDT and Smart employees, proving that small but consistent actions can lead to significant environmental impact.

“We dream of a waste-free Philippines. With collaborations like this, we hope more people will speak out and echo our voice for a cleaner world and for a food-secure country,” she added.

Through EarthSmart, employees of PLDT and Smart are not only reducing waste but also fostering a culture of sustainability that inspires their communities. By partnering with like-minded individuals and organizations, they amplify their efforts, proving that collaboration is key to building a better, greener future.

This dedication reflects the core values of the PLDT Group—responsibility, collaboration, and innovation—and shows that every action, big or small, counts.
Beyond its immediate benefits, the EarthSmart initiative is part of PLDT and Smart’s broader commitment to sustainability. By championing responsible business practices and working closely with partners like DTBC, the group aligns its efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG No. 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
