Fifty-two-year-old school nurse Anne Bacungan recently attended the Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training organized by PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), in partnership with Football for Humanity and the local government of Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon.

“This training has expanded my knowledge on PFA and empowered me to help others in my role as a nurse at the Department of Education. The session reminded me that our mental health really is as vital as our physical health,” she shared.

Attended by coaches and educators, the workshop focused on PFA principles, highlighting the importance of empathy and a supportive presence, especially for the youth. During the two-day session, participants engaged in role play and interactive discussions to bring out strategies for promoting mental wellness within their communities.

Bacungan appreciated how the sessions put a spotlight on creating safe spaces for individuals struggling to find support and understanding. “I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this activity focused on mental health. This experience has deepened my understanding of a significant societal issue and equipped me with the skills to provide Psychological First Aid effectively,” she remarked.

PLDT and Smart actively promote mental health awareness as part of its digital wellness advocacy, helping Filipinos be #BetterToday. This initiative also supports the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being.
