PLDT and Smart’s social outreach arm, the PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) and Alagang Kapatid Foundation, Inc. (AKFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of TV5, joined hands to provide aid to residents affected by the recent flooding of low-lying areas in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

“Thanks to our partners in PLDT and the MVP Group, PSF continues to be felt in underserved areas, particularly amidst crises and disasters”, PSF President Esther Santos said.

Smart employees, along with partners from its provincial distributor 1 Top Up, facilitated the distribution of relief packs, hygiene kits, and care kits to around 300 families. The assistance was a much-needed lifeline for affected residents.

“I am grateful to have been given the chance to volunteer during the relief distribution of PSF and AKFI. It is always a humbling experience to give back to the community in our own little way, especially during these trying times. We value “malasakit” in Smart, and this compassion extends to everyone in need,” shared Rosevie Tuballa, Smart Customer Development Manager.

The accompanying warmth, smiles, and reassurance from the volunteers also touched the hearts of flood victims.  Tagum resident Norbel Malinao said, “I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to those who have helped us. This will augment the daily needs of my family, especially my children. Thank you very much,” she said.

PLDT Group also provided Libreng Tawag and Libreng WiFi services to residents of Davao City barangays affected by flash floods last January.

These programs helping communities recover from calamities underscore PLDT and Smart’s commitment to create a #SafeandSmart Philippines and to help the country achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. #StaySafeandSmart [END]
