For Señor Santo Niño devotee, Angel Canen, the Basilica Minore Del Sto. Niño de Cebu is not only a place of worship and a sacred landmark, but it is also a place that provides her with opportunities to make a living.
Angel, 53, is a new photographer stationed at Magellan's Cross, a well-known tourist attraction outside the Basilica Church in Cebu City. As a single mother who needed to provide for her children living in Negros Occidental, she experienced entering a variety of jobs, including babysitting, working in a rattan factory, becoming a lady guard for ten years, and now being a photographer.
She started this job last September 2022 without knowledge of cameras and photography. “Because of my need for income at that time, my friend convinced me to enter this work even without experience and proper equipment. It was a challenging start, but because of my faith in Señor Santo Niño, I persevered,” she shared.
After a few months of learning and asking the Holy Child if this is the work she is meant to do, Angel is now more confident in taking photos of her customers. “I believe that everything that has happened in my life is Santo Niño’s will, and I will cherish this new talent and opportunity that He has bestowed upon me,” she said.
Communication is also crucial in Angel’s line of work—for instance, she always needs to contact customers who want to claim their printed photos. “Smart and TNT have been extremely beneficial in my work. Aside from their strong network, I am also pleased with their affordable promos,” she said.
“I am glad that, despite the fact that many people now take pictures with their smartphones, there are still people who ask us to photograph them at the Basilica Church and Magellan's Cross. That means a lot to us,” Angel said.
PLDT and Smart joined devotees in celebrating the recent 458th anniversary of Fiesta Señor, boosting its network signal to keep communication services available during the fiesta season for subscribers like Angel.
