More learning communities in Mindanao have received School-in-a-Bag (SIAB) packages from PLDT’s wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), in partnership with United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP).
Smart’s digital classroom contains learning equipment like tablets pre-loaded with educational mobile applications for learners, a laptop and connectivity devices for teachers, to boost inclusive quality education in hard-to-access places.
Educators from Ettub-Ettub Elementary School and Caro Elementary School in Basilan Province, and Arena Blanco Elementary School in Zamboanga City can use the SIAB to expand current teaching strategies, through interactive activities that ensure no learner is left behind.
“No child left behind means bridging the digital divide and making learning resources available to teachers and learners in the farthest and most isolated areas of the Philippines,” said Brandon Miller, Acting Deputy Mission Director of USAID Philippines.“This distribution of SIAB kits to schools in Basilan and Zamboanga brings us a step closer to bridging this gap, as we make quality education accessible to more Filipino learners,” he added.
USAID also recently launched a technology-based reading program to benefit Bangsamoro learners.
“We at PLDT and Smart, together with PLDT-Smart Foundation, have been working hard to roll out inclusive and accessible education solutions to our country’s last-mile schools. The School-in-a-Bag provides learners access to technology, connectivity, and educational content,” said Catherine Yap-Yang, PLDT and Smart FVP and Head of Group Corporate Communications.
These efforts highlight PLDT and Smart’s commitment to inclusive quality education through Information and Communications Technology, content, pedagogy, and capacity building to ensure that there is #NoLearnerLeftBehind.
