Rey Yaba has been active in social initiatives even when he was still a student. A graduate of Capitol University in Cagayan de Oro, he has embraced his school’s mission to be catalysts for social transformation. 

Now, an engineer, Rey still volunteers for civic groups, like the National Citizen’s Movement for Free Elections or NAMFREL, a non-partisan movement that promotes clean, honest, and fair elections. 

During elections, Ray can be seen donning a NAMFREL shirt as he volunteers for the country’s poll watchdo. “Being a NAMFREL volunteer is my way of showing patriotism. I was a student leader back then and this has inspired me to continue being a volunteer. As a leader, showing my patriotism has also inspired others to be vigilant.”
 
For Rey, technology plays a crucial role in becoming a productive member of society and performing his professional and civic duties. Being a Smart subscriber has helped him overcome communication challenges. “As a volunteer, technology enables us to maximize our talents and synergize our efforts – it helps bridge the distance between the areas we serve.
