Smart frontliner Matet Macadaan on the different roles women play

Matet Macadaan is a successful career woman with a passion for learning. A registered nurse who ventured into the field of sales and marketing, she continued to nurture her thirst for personal development over the years. Her quest for learning has led to a Bachelor of Laws degree. And now, Matet is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration. “Regardless of age, we should continue to improve ourselves. Despite our busy schedules, we need to make time for our personal development,” Matet shares.

Even in a male-dominated environment, Matet believes that women can still shine when given the opportunity. And she is a living testament to this, having spent almost three decades of field experience as the Western Mindanao Area Development Manager for Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart. “I am lucky to work in a company where I have never felt discriminated nor looked down on, just because I am a woman. Majority of my work is about trust, and with my strengths as a woman, I have proven my worth and gained the trust of the people I work with,” she adds.

Matet manages to balance her role as a wife, a mother, and a corporate leader, but she understands that women can take on different roles and empowerment also takes on many forms. She says, “Whether she stays at home or works to provide for her family, the empowered woman is a source of encouragement to her circle, and an inspiration to other women who are experiencing the same challenges in life.”

Matet believes that strength comes in many forms, sharing, “Women can be sweet, soft, and caring by nature, but we are definitely not weak and should never be underestimated. Every woman is created powerful and unique. Be yourself! With love, compassion and faith in God, we can continue to conquer the world.”
