[27 Dec 2016] As of 12 noon today, about 90% of Smart’s cell sites in the 14 provinces affected by Typhoon Nina in South Luzon are operating, providing voice and SMS services. Teams of Smart engineers are focused on restoring services in the most affected provinces of Catanduanes, Marinduque, Camarines Sur, Albay, and Romblon.
Initial assessment by our field personnel indicate that misaligned or damaged transmission links account for a large part of the outages.
The lack of commercial power remains a key constraint, as logistic resources have to be deployed to keep generator sets running. Repair crews also have to deal with the problems posed by the many fallen electric poles on which transmission lines had been placed.
Meantime, Smart – working with PLDT offices and provincial business partners – has set up Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations in the following areas:
- Broadway Marketing office in Boac, Marinduque
- Omega Building in Pili, Camarines Sur
- LPMC Building in Sorsogon, Sorsogon
- Smart has also deployed a roving Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging unit with the Tulong Kapatid emergency relief team in Catanduanes.
Smart has also set up Libreng Tawag stations in the following areas:
- Traders Square Building in Naga City
- Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, Albay
Libreng Charging stations have also been set up in the following areas:
- Quick Trax Marketing office in Naga City
- Broadway Marketing office in Santa Cruz, Marinduque
- PLDT business office in Rizal Street, Barangay Ilawod, Old Albay, Legazpi City
- PLDT business office in Boac, Marinduque (near the Boac Municipal Building)
- Digitel business office in Boac, Marinduque (near the Provincial Capitol Building)
