Our friends at the GSMA (the GSM Association, the global association of mobile operators and related mobile companies) have just announced that a new website for their "Smarter Apps for Smarter Phones" initiative is going online on June 26, 2013.

The new site will be up at http://gsma.com/smarterappsguidelines
This replaces an earlier site that started the ball rolling by describing the Smarter Apps Guidelines – a set of guidelines for mobile developers to create apps that extend battery life and reduce bandwidth requirements.
The GSMA notes:
Following the successful launch of the GSMA Smarter Apps Guidelines for developers, the content and functionality is now available on dynamic webpages. The new user generated pages have been developed by developers, supporting app development across all major platforms. The Smarter Apps Guidelines were been developed to enable improvements for applications on smartphones, including application connectivity, power consumption, network reliability and security.
By following these guidelines developers will be better equipped to create fit-for-purpose apps; mobile operators will see a reduced strain on their networks; and users will experience more responsive and reliable apps and improved battery life.
The new site lists general development principles for Smarter Apps, and more detailed sections for applying these principles to iOS, Android, Windows, and Mobile web applications.

The initiative is supported by the GSMA with special partners SMART Communications (Philippines), Olleh KT (Korea), China Mobile (China), SK Telecom (Korea), DeveloperEconomics.com, and Intel.
