Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and Sun Cellular (Sun)
are sustaining efforts to provide communications assistance to
residents in areas affected by Tropical Storm Ruby even as
previously disrupted network coverage in many areas has
already been restored.
Network services of Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and Sun
Cellular (Sun) continue to operate normally in most of the areas
currently being affected by Tropical Storm Ruby even as cellular
services in the worst-hit areas of Samar and Biliran have
started to normalize.
For the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), Smart and Sun provided
wireless broadband devices as well as additional mobile phones and load
to be used for hotline coordination for their National Disaster Risk Reduction
Management Council (NDRRMC) Operation Center located in Quezon City.
PLDT is also installing 5 additional landlines and DSL data link for the OCD and
TD-LTE wireless broadband links for the three command centers of Cebu City.
Smart has organized a short training program for the Department
of Education (DepEd) on the use of the mobile phone as a tool
for disaster preparedness in line with efforts to promote safety
during extreme weather events and emergencies.
