[15 September 2017] PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications (Smart) has partnered with the Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc. (MRSGI), one of the country’s top retailers, to expand its retail footprint in the National Capital Region, South Luzon, Central Luzon and the Visayas areas, making its products and services more accessible to its millions of subscribers.

(MRSGI), one of the country’s top retailers, to expand its retail footprint in the National Capital Region, South Luzon, Central Luzon and the Visayas areas, making its products and services more accessible to its millions of subscribers.
With the partnership, Smart, TNT, and Sun Prepaid Cards will now be sold in Metro Stores, including SIM packs, and Smart Bro devices.
“Partnerships with retailers like Metro Retail Stores is important for Smart as we bring our products and services closer to our subscribers using their existing network,” said Alex O. Caeg, head of Wireless Consumer Division Sales and Distribution at Smart.
“Our stronghold in the Visayas and Mindanao will help Smart further strengthen its brand presence. We have 52 stores across the country that can accommodate Smart activities or promo launches. A marketable brand with over 50 million subscribers, Smart is a lucrative brand to carry in our stores,” said Jonathan Juan “JJ” Moreno, chief strategy and governance officer at MRSGI.
Based on the partnership roadmap, Smart products such as eLoad will be integrated in Metro’s point-of-sale (POS) terminals; and in merchandising, store opening, and other consumer promos.
MRSGI operates stores encompassing multiple formats: Metro Department Store, Metro Supermarket, and Super Metro Hypermarket. According to a 2014 Euromonitor report, Metro is the largest operator of department stores and hypermarkets in the Visayas.
Smart has been aggressively partnering with retail institutions to expand its distribution channels and improve product availability.
“There will be more partnerships similar to this as we progressively make our products and services more accessible to our subscribers. Our goal is to make buying Smart eLoad and other Smart products as convenient as possible,” added Caeg.[END]
