Smart employees can go on paid community service leave so they could help Filipino communities.
Employees of PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications recently spent a whole day with Aeta students in a volunteer outreach program.
Members of Smart’s Integrated Revenue Management group went to Haduan Negrito Elementary School in Mabalacat, Pampanga to conduct a storytelling session, games, art workshops, and a discussion on personal hygiene for Aeta students aged five to 12. The Smart employees also donated supplies like medicines, clothes, footwear, and solar lamps.
The students live in a community without access to basic services like electricity, water supply, and transportation.
Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Smart continues to encourage its workforce to do their share in nation-building by supporting its corporate social responsibility programs or organizing volunteer work on their own. Smart employees are allowed to go on paid community service leave for this purpose.
“We wanted to share our blessings with others and in return, we received a lot of joy and fulfillment. It was a short activity, but a memorable one. We hope to do more of these in the future,” said center head Hency Sta. Ana.
