Indigenous peoples and Muslim college scholars of various local government units and organizations in Mindanao will be able to access their online classes with the help of Smart Communications, Inc.
Students supported by various organizations such as the Pegsabeka Organization, General Santos’ AKLAT-GSC, and Sarangani’s Paaral Para sa Saarangan – PPSS of Sulong Karunungan will receive PLDT Home Wi-Fi units to assist them in their studies.
AKLAT Gensan scholar Carlo Majadas shared, “Malaking tulong po ito sa aming mga estudyanteng kapus-palad na hindi po kayang makabili ng mga ganitong bagay (This is a big help for us students who cannot afford these gadgets).”
These PLDT Home Wi-Fi units will benefit IP and Muslim scholars in General Santos, Sarangani, and Davao City.
“This is part of Smart’s advocacy to make sure that there’s no learner left behind as the world faces a health crisis,” said Ramon R. Isberto, head of Public Affairs at PLDT and Smart. “We hope that through this initiative, we can make a world of difference to our scholars in Mindanao,” he added.
“Dako among pasalamat sa Smart nga naghatag aning Wi-Fi units para sa among IP students. This is very useful and a big help sa mga students karon nga pandemic kay namroblema mi kay ang classes online (We are grateful towards Smart for giving Wi-Fi units to our IP students. This is very useful to our students, especially amid a pandemic, and because their classes will be held online)," said Datu Rody Mande of Matigsalug tribe, and project head for Pegsabeka Organization.
”We would like to thank Smart for all the assistance they have extended to us, especially in the education of IP students through the development of educational materials, and now, with these Wi-Fi units for our scholars,” said Marife Gomez, project supervisor at Sulong Karunugan.
Smart has been mobilizing several partnerships to reach more schools and students through connectivity expansion, School-in-a-Bag donations, and the development of local language educational apps.
