Smart Communications and the MVP Sports Foundation are pleased to announce that Badminton Asia Confederation has chosen Manila as the host for the Badminton Asia Team Championships, a world class tournament, which will be held from February 11 to 16, 2020 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Badminton is one of the core sports of the MVP Sports Foundation and Smart will be the lead sponsor for this year’s BAC.
BAC is a pivotal event because it is the qualifying tournament for the following world badminton competitions: The 2020 Tokyo Olympics, The Thomas Cup Men’s World Championship in Denmark, and the Uber Cup Women’s World Championship in Denmark.
PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is supporting the Philippines' hosting of this year’s Badminton Asia Team Championships, the biggest international badminton tournament in Asia.
Twelve (12) countries – including badminton powerhouses China, Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia – are expected to participate in this event, which will be held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila on February 11 to 16, 2020. Smash Pilipinas, the country’s national badminton team, will also compete in this prestigious event.
“We're happy to help out in the country's hosting of this prestigious international sports event. This is very much in line with our advocacy of helping nation-building through sports. We strongly believe that the positive values that sports promote can help our people to improve their lives,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT Chairman and CEO.
“We are grateful for the support of the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Badminton Association, the local government of Manila, Smart, TV5, Cignal, Maynilad, and other partners who are helping us mount this momentous event for badminton this year,” said Chooi Weng Sheng, Senior Events Manager of Badminton Asia.
The Badminton Asia Team Championships is organized by the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) which is one of the five continental bodies under the flag of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
