Diligence pays off, whatever one's goal. Justine Lei Ramos of Cebu confirmed this time and again throughout her student life.
After earning a degree in architecture at the Cebu Institute of Technology University, the 23-year old graduate still would not take it easy. There was the board exam to pass.
While reviewing, she became a regular fixture at the Cebu City Public Library (CCPL).
Sometimes, however, there was not enough reference material on certain topics. That's when she turned to a different library: the internet.
Fortunately, the CCPL is not only the country's first public library open 24/7, it also happens to have Smart WiFi.
Shortly after the CCPL started its 24/7 operations last year, PLDT and Smart made carrier-grade Smart WiFi available to students, researchers and other visitors of the library. This enabled Justine to access a wide range of reference material available online.
"Good connectivity and the internet made my life as a board exam reviewee easier," acknowledged Justine, who topped the board exam.
"It was not always easy, at times you doubt your capabilities," she concedes. But she stayed focused on her goal, motivated and encouraged by their family.
Smart recently received the Mayor's Special Award for Outstanding Institution from Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña for providing the library free WiFi.
Aside from the CCPL, Smart WiFi is also available for students at Cebu Institute of Technology, Cebu Technological University, Sacred Heart Ateneo de Cebu, University of Cebu Banilad, Don Bosco Cebu, Holy Name University, University of Cebu, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Velez College and UP Cebu, to name a few.
“PLDT and Smart continue to lead the country’s digital transformation by empowering Filipinos everywhere with quality connectivity,” said Juan Victor Hernandez, Senior Vice President and Head of Enterprise for PLDT and Smart.
“By linking up with partners and government, we continue to invest in ICT infrastructure to uplift the lives of individuals, as well as enhance businesses and enterprises,” Hernandez added.
In 2015, Cebu City Hall was the first establishment in Cebu that offered public Smart WiFi. Other areas with Smart Wifi are the Cebu Provincial Capitol, Larsian Food Center, Cebu North and South Bus Terminals, and Cebu Port Terminals 1 and 3.
The nationwide rollout of Smart WiFi complements Smart’s ongoing network expansion and modernization program across the country.
