PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has accelerated its SIM Registration assistance to schools all over Mindanao. Through partner universities in Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga City, Bukidnon Province, Agusan del Sur, Davao City, and General Santos City, among others, Smart has likewise sustained its awareness campaign on the SIM Registration Act, encouraging more Smart and TNT customers to register their SIMs before the deadline.
Smart AVP for Vismin Customer Development, Grace Ruperto, shares, “Smart is expanding its SIM registration campaign to partner schools, because we want to encourage members of the school community to register their SIMs before the deadline. For students below 18 years old, registration will be done through their parents or guardians.”
Central Mindanao University student Nerf Onipa urged fellow students to start registering their Smart and TNT SIM cards. “In this digital age, it is high time that we prioritize safety and security. We are happy that Smart has set up a SIM registration booth in our school to make this initiative more accessible to students,” she said.
Smart’s SIM card registration drive in schools is part of the company’s overarching goal to protect more subscribers from SIM-, internet-, and electronic communication-aided crimes. SIM owners have until April 26, 2023 to register their SIMs before these will be deactivated.
To help spread the information among more students, Smart’s partner school organizations and Student Ambassadors have also lent their full support to the campaign by posting SIM registration reminders on social media.
“The SIM Registration Act will help lessen our concerns on text scams and cybercrimes and make it easier for the government to catch the bad guys behind these crimes. I really support this campaign and I am thankful that Smart is here at school to assist us with our inquiries and help us understand more about this,” said Chiko Christy Pace from University of Mindanao – Matina Campus.
Subscribers are advised to register their SIMS to keep these active and to help fight against scammers and predators online. New and existing Smart Prepaid and TNT subscribers may also visit PLDT and Smart stores and access Smart’s SIM registration portal through smart.com.ph/simreg, while postpaid customers can simply text YES to 5858 to confirm their registration.
