Paddlers from all over the country battled it out in the recently concluded National Dragon Boat competition to rule the seas of Dapa in the island of Siargao, Surigao del Norte. Supported by Smart Communications, Inc., it is the first big event for the year that was held in Siargao Island and organized by the Dapa Municipal Tourism Office in an effort to further boost tourism on the island after it was ravaged by Super Typhoon Odette in 2021.
Dragon Warriors from the Philippine Army reigned supreme and took home the trophy besting 20 other crew from Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao.
Popularly known for East Bucas Grande Beaches, Casolian Island, and Abanay Island, the municipality of Dapa is also the main entry point to the popular tourist destination. The 1st Dapa Siargao National Dragon Boat Regatta aims to put the island back on the map, as it starts to recover from the effects of the pandemic and the super typhoon.
Irvin Bendanillo, Municipal Tourism Officer, shared, “Smart has helped the local government unit promote this major event through merchandising support. The company’s positive brand image affects public perception, adding color and excitement.”
Smart also continues to support the local government’s recovery efforts by providing locals with livelihood opportunities and promoting tourism.
