The Southern Iligan Transport Service Cooperative (SOILTRASCO) in Iligan City is now powered by Smart WiFi and Smart Infocast, a web-based SMS-broadcast solution, as PLDT wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) continues to promote digital inclusion for cooperatives.
SOILTRASCO Treasurer Marie Jay Latoja lauded Smart’s initiative in expanding the cooperative’s services. “The free Smart WiFi onboard our modern public utility vehicles (PUVs) will help commuters, especially workers and students, who need mobile connectivity,” she said.
With information being crucial to SOILTRASCO, Smart Infocast will facilitate hassle-free and seamless communication with its members. “Now, members can receive more timely updates because of Smart Infocast. Moreover, with our own mask name on messages sent through Smart Infocast, they become more credible to our members,” she added.
“Sharing the same objectives with SOILTRASCO, we aim to provide convenience to commuters with the free public WiFi project,” shared Ma. Santina Calipayan, Community Development Specialist of Smart. “We are excited to work with SOILTRASCO as they adapt to digitalization to improve their services for their stakeholders,” she added.
This initiative emphasizes PLDT and Smart’s commitment to attaining United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 9 to significantly increase access to information and communications technology and strive to provide universal and affordable access to the Internet in least developed countries.
