PLDT and Smart are on the last mile of restoration activities in Mindanao following the onslaught of super typhoon Odette. Fixed services near full completion at 99% while wireless services are up 98% in the region. Work continues for remaining areas in Surigao del Norte including Siargao where Smart has fired up a portable cell site in Dapa making Smart the first telco to restore voice calls and text messaging services in the area.

Over in the Visayas, PLDT and Smart have restored communication services in Hinundayan, Anahawan, San Juan, St. Bernard, Malitbog, Padre Burgos and in the city of Maasin. PLDT and Smart are first to reconnect these areas in the aftermath of super typhoon Odette.

As a whole, PLDT and Smart are bringing more areas in the Visayas back online with mobile services up 88%. Fixed services are present in 62% of the region. Despite limited commercial power affecting restoration activities, PLDT and Smart are doubling efforts to reconnect the rest of Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and the Negros provinces.

The group has made good progress in Palawan with wireless services up in 74% of the province. Technical teams are exerting all efforts to reach affected assets as road clearing continues and commercial power is being stabilized.

Some customers in previously restored areas may experience service quality issues due to power interruptions and accidental cuts of transmission lines in clearing activities.

PLDT and Smart together with PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) continue to extend relief aid to areas hardest hit by the super typhoon. On Wednesday, the group turned over around 1,000 packs of relief goods, two emergency power generators and 50 water filters intended for the province of Dinagat Islands.

In a text message, Dinagat Governor Kaka Bag-ao expressed her appreciation for the group’s effort saying that the donation means a lot for residents.

“In Dinagat, we believe and adhere to the principle, ‘Walang maliit, walang malayo. Ang lahat ay mahalaga’ (Nothing is too little, nowhere is too far. Everything is important). With your help, we can rebuild and sustain our communities,” reads part of her message.

Relief operations were also conducted in Cebu City where residents and workers in Barangays Tungkop and Tunghaan in Minglanilla received food packs, free SIMs from PLDT, Smart and PSF.

Help is also on the way for the island of Siargao, one of the worst-hit provinces. The PLDT group is sending around 1,000 food packs to affected residents. Odette flattened the popular tourist destination after hammering it with destructive winds and torrential rains last week.

Working with provincial distributor Cellcom, the group also visited five sites in Southern Leyte distributing around 1,350 food packs including 1,000 burgers, as well as Smart 5G-ready SIMs in Hinunangan, Sogod, Malitbog, Limasawa and Maasin City.

“Taos-puso po akong nagpapasalamat sa PLDT, Smart at PLDT-Smart Foundation sa tulong na ibinigay nyo sa amin. Malaking tulong po ito sa mga nangangailangan (With all my heart, I thank PLDT, Smart and PLDT-Smart foundation for the aid. This is a huge help to residents in need),”  said Hinunangan Mayor Reynaldo ‘Sonny’ Fernandez.

PLDT and Smart commit to reconnect the rest of areas heavily impacted by #OdettePH. The group together with PSF will continue to extend assistance to other badly hit communities.
