PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has teamed up with global platform Airalo to launch the first ever prepaid eSIM in the Philippines for international customers.
An eSIM is a virtual SIM that allows customers to access prepaid mobile services from Smart without the need to buy a physical SIM card. Airalo is the world’s first eSIM store that allows travelers to conveniently access over 190 eSIMs at near local rates from around the world, all via eSIM-compatible smartphone, tablet or PC.
Under this partnership, companies who provide services that need connectivity in the Philippines -- such as tour operators, distributors, or even international travelers visiting the country -- can conveniently purchase Smart’s prepaid eSIM via the Airalo website or app. They can simply go to https://www.airalo.com/philippines-esim

Fastest LTE, 5G networks in PH; widest 5G roaming coverage
This prepaid eSIM is powered by Smart, the country’s fastest mobile data network as reported by third-party mobile internet analytics firms Ookla, Opensignal, and umlaut.
As of end-June, Smart has deployed more than 4,000 5G sites across the country in its sustained, accelerated rollout of the service nationwide. In addition to this, Smart has also pioneered Smart 5G roaming services in 27 countries with 38 partners all over the world. Smart is also part of the Conexus Mobile Alliance, one of the largest mobile alliances in Asia, pushing for the development of 5G in the region.
Since 2017, Smart has almost quadrupled the number of LTE base stations across the country, while parent company PLDT has tripled its fiber footprint.
PLDT currently operates the country’s most extensive fiber infrastructure, at more than 511,000 kilometers as of June 2021. This also supports Smart’s mobile networks, which now cover 96% of the population from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi.
PLDT and Smart’s relentless push to provide connectivity for all is aligned with the group’s long-standing commitment to help the Philippines attain the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG #9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
