[22 January 2018] As of 3 p.m. today, the mobile services of PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications (Smart) remain operational in areas near Mt. Mayon. Prepositioned teams of engineers and technicians are on standby to ensure Smart’s mobile phone services are up and running in affected areas.

Residents in need of assistance may contact the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (Apsemo) through the following Smart hotlines: 09292632202, 09292632203, and 09984068835.
Meanwhile, Smart has also deployed disaster communications services in calamity-prone areas. Albay residents may receive timely text updates through the Smart Infocast SMS broadcast system, while Smart, Sun, and TNT subscribers can send reports to the Agos online disaster platform by texting 2929.
They may also download the Batingaw emergency management app, which gives advisories and safety tips, allows users to send reports to government agencies, and has utilities such as a flashlight, a siren, a radio, and a compass, among other safety features.
