Smart Network Advisory: Tropical Storm Urduja

by SMART Public Affairs | Dec 19, 2017
[19 December 2017] Wireless communications services restored in about 80% of affected areas; free calling and charging services offered

Smart Communications Inc. has restored wireless communications services in about 80 percent of the areas affected by Tropical Storm "Urduja" in Eastern Visayas. Network services in Leyte, including Tacloban, Ormoc, and other neighboring areas, have been up and running since yesterday.

Restoration efforts, which are hampered by the unavailability of commercial power, are being fast-tracked despite the inaccessibility of some areas due to flooding and road damage.

Alongside restoration efforts, Smart is providing free call and free charging services to affected communities. Smart is offering Libreng Tawag and Charging services in Samar and Biliran, which are heavily affected by #UrdujaPH.

A Libreng Charging center has opened at the Smart cell site in Biliran, Naval, and another one will be deployed along P. Inocentes Street tomorrow. More Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging Centers are expected to be opened later.

These initiatives for network resiliency, rapid response and disaster preparedness are part of Smart's #SafePH advocacy.
