Guide to Educational Videos

Since educational videos have already been proven to be a hit among students, it is time to look for ones that are of good quality. Keep the students' interest and spice up classroom lessons on subjects like history, science and math with the following websites and videos found in these websites:

TeacherTube
Launched in 2007 by a 14-year veteran educator named Jason Smith, TeacherTube is an online community where members can share instructional videos. Teachers not only post videos, they also make constructive comments on what others uploaded, rate or flag the videos for content. What's more, it's free for everyone.

Brainpop
An online resource for students, teachers and parents, Brainpop has short educational animated videos on various topics. There is a subscription fee to view most videos. The videos can be used in the classroom as they utilize simple computer animation, with sharp edges and bright colors. There is also a 10-question quiz at the end, which can be taken online or printed out for the class.

National Geographic Video
An offshoot of the National Geographic website, this is devoted to online videos on animals, people, places, the environment and so much more. The videos are short, educational feature movies of very good quality, and can be searched using the Channel Archives. This is also a free service. You just need Adobe Flash Player 9 to view the videos.

Discovery Education streaming
This website is recognized by educators as a valuable resource in the classroom, with streaming videos ranging from “Korea: Microchip Miracle” and “An Inside Look at the Flu” to “Interactions and Relationships among Organisms” and “Manipulating DNA Access.”

The Moving Image Archive
This contains more than 80,000 videos, digitized films and industrial videos that
could be hard to find anywhere else. They even have clips of old-fashioned
commercials!
